It's that time of year again. You know the one where your husband disappears for the whole day? He leaves with big hopes of big antlers, and comes home with wonderful stories of God's creation. I have seen this husband of mine soften over the years. He has proudly named his shot gun "The Widow Maker." It used to make cringe when he would to say it with the biggest smile and this awful laugh. But the other days it warmed my heart when he came home to say he let the best shot of the day walk, a momma doe and her 2 fawns. He said,"She would've been a good one," but all he could think of was me and our 2 munchkins. :)
This love for "The Hunt," I think is genetic. It's got to be! This child doesn't even own a toy gun, he uses a plastic hanger! But we talk about "POWING" and "shooting" deer, turkey, fox, pheasants, and dragons all the time. He waits all day for Daddy to come in from the woods. He's always very concerned that Daddy will forget to bring the deer he shoots home for Levi to see. When Daddy finally arrives home it's all he can do to get in the door. The questions start pouring the moment Levi hears the keys in the door. He wants to know every detail of Daddy's time in the woods.
A few weeks ago Levi told me, "When I turn 3, I'm going to the woods with my Daddy and my Bear-Bear and go target shooting."
I smiled and said something like, "Oh, ok."
And he TOLD me again, "When I turn 3, I'm going target shooting."
So I replied with, "We'll ask Daddy about it."
"Daddy told me to," he stated.
We saw Daddy a few minutes later and I told Levi, "Tell Daddy what you just told me."
"Daddy told me, my go'a woods, when I turn 3."
Well, sure enough, Josh says, "Ya, I told him that."
And here he is target shooting 3 weeks BEFORE his 3rd birthday :)
I always knew this day was coming and I was just as excited as Levi was. I know how much fun he has being a big boy, and I also know how he still yells down the stairs, "Hug! Kiss! Hug! Kiss! Hug! Kiss!" because he needs just one more hug & kiss before he can take a nap.
